Community Development


The Community Development Department is responsible for current and long-range planning, administration and enforcement of the town's zoning and subdivision ordinances, updating the Comprehensive Plan and Capital Improvements Plan.  The Department processes a variety of applications such as zoning permits, site plan reviews, sign permits, subdivision permits, special use permits, variances, rezonings and appeals.  The Department also advises citizens and interested parties on matters concerning land development within the town, zoning laws and other relevant ordinances and laws. 

The Community Development Department provides staff support to the Town of Orange Planning Commission and to the Town of Orange Board of Zoning Appeals

​East Main Street Enhancement Project - UPC 107154

The purpose of this project is to upgrade the existing pedestrian facilities along East Main Street from east of the railroad tracks to the intersection with May Fray Avenue/Byrd Street.  The improvements include replacement of the existing sidewalk, curb, driveway and curb ramps to make them ADA compliant, storm drainage alterations required for the curb bump-outs, signing and pavement marking upgrades, and landscaping enhancements.  Pedestrian signal upgrades are also included at the existing signalized intersection and pedestrian lighting improvements extended along East Main Street and along the west side of Byrd Street between East Main Street and East Church Street. 

Pre-bid Conference will be Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 10am, at the Town of Orange Public Works Community Room located at 235 Warren Street, Orange, VA 22960.  The pre-bid conference will be held via conference call.  

Bids will be due on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 2pm.  Bids must be delivered to 235 Warren Street, Orange, VA 22960 to Kim Strawser, Deputy Town Clerk.
